Simplify

I've recently come to the conclusion that my online life was taking up way too much of my time. Instead of doing important things around the house, I was reading blogs or chatting on Facebook. My energy level has taken a dip, and I just can't keep up with everything anymore. I have a lot of online friends that I love, and will miss the level of involvement I've previously had...but for now I need some time on the sidelines. I need to spend more time on my health...exercising my body instead of just typing. Sitting and enjoying meals instead of snacking at my laptop. Going to bed at a decent hour instead of chatting so late I had to prop my eyelids open. In one phrase: it's time to simplify.

Fret not if a week or two goes by without a post. It means I'm spending time with my family, or exercising, or getting the rest I need. I'm sure I'll eventually be back to blogging on a consistent basis.

As Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band say:

Well I say what the hey
I got bills to pay
I work all day I got no time to play
And once more knockin' on my door is a tax collector
And I'm going see,
There's too many bills
Too many pills
To many features and too many frills
No money
Too many things to buy
Too many ways to split the pie,

I got to simplify

I got to smell the flowers
Enjoy the ride
I got open up my eyes
And see what's outside
All the things I miss each day
'Cause I'm drivin in the fast lane
And it's makin' me insane
And I don't wanna be that way
I wanna be free today
From the responsibilities it brings

Excess distress
I got to enjoy more
And stress less
Simplify

I got to simplify
I got to simplify
My life I say simplify
I got to simplify

Well that's great, I'm late
'Cause I'm always in a hurry for a meeting in the state of confusion
A delusion
An illusion
I'm takin' much too far
I'm always livin in the future or the past
Time flies to fast
I got to make it last
So enjoy it
Relax, chill out
Just give it a try

I say simplify
I got to simplify
My life I say simplify
I got to got to got to
Simplify

(PS I still plan to post about the ATL PWC meetup, I just haven't had a chance yet)

Love those lyrics. I feel the same way about my internet time. Sometimes I go through phases where I try to stay off for several days in a row. I always feel so much better when I do.

Good for you for putting your real life ahead of your online life. As long as you don't forget about us!

Simple is good. I recently came to a similar conclusion, and I haven't been sorry.

Enjoy your family time! :)

It's not always easy to keep it all balanced, but you're doing the right thing. I set aside a time once a day to check blogs, my FB is on my phone so I can do that in between things, I refuse to twitter and I handle e-mail the same way I do blogs. It's worked for me so far.

I always wondered how you did it; I try SO hard to blog once a week, but it takes me so long. And then I want to read and comment everyone else's blogs, update my facebook and twitter constantly, email my friends, etc. It is very overwhelming! For instance, I still haven't replied to the email you wrote me back at work last week and EVERY day I'm like -today I'm going to write her back on my lunch break...then I don't get a lunch break!!!!

I TOTALLY understand and feel you on this one. I went strong in March blogging and on twitter and had to cut way back. You could seriously live an entire life in cyberland and it's probably not healthy for us (and our families)!

I spend so much time on message boards and reading other people's blogs that I can't get one started myself. It's just too much. Good for you for breaking the addiction :)

Good for you. I've had to do that too, and it's hard and you miss it, but it is for the best. I'll miss you, but I look forward to more posts!!!

Good for you Nicole.

I had a big wake-up call during conference. Elder Hales talk really struck me about an hour and a half after he'd given it. I realized his debt principle applied to time as well.

If we get into debt, we cannot choose what to do with our money, because we must pay off our debts, and take care of necessities.

If we waste time, we get into bondage, which means that we have to spend all our remaining time on necessities, instead of choosing to do the things we want/need to.

It's really just another way to remember ye auld object lesson.

Rocks before Rice, rocks before rice. (One day I'll start listening to myself)

I hear you on the blogging thing, I get on like once a week to blog and by the time I read through everyone's blogs and check my email, hours have gone by. Good luck with the simplifying.
