An extra day in CA?

No, I didn't secretly run off to California. Taylor and Rosie were there for 5 days, and flew out to SLC yesterday morning. Had they stayed an extra day, they would have been there for the earthquake and for the birth of twin nieces. Taylor's sister Lissy gave birth to Sarah and Phoebe (according to the pictures I just looked at on Myspace) on the same day as a 5.4 magnitude earthquake. I'll bet she feels like her life was shook up quite a bit yesterday!

Time for a haircut!

My hair is probably the longest it's ever been right now. It goes halfway down my back! However, Michigan has been plenty humid these past few months, and my hair is getting so unruly!!! The humidity brings out the natural curl that I desperately try to unkink with my flat iron. Lately, it's been in a ponytail or Knothead almost every day. A coworker was saying that if your favorite hairstyle is a ponytail, it's time for a new style.

So tonight I cut my hair. Nothing drastic, but enough to feel like I lost a little hair-weight. It's in a ponytail right now, but I'll post a pic in a few days when it's styled.

The Blessing of the Day

The maintenance people fixed our A/C today. It is a comfortable 75 degrees. Balance has been restored to the force. I'm going to keep it on all night so I can wake up shivering.

Crazy July Schedule

Taylor left on another 4-day trip today. I feel like I've hardly seen him the past month. 4-day trip, then Cali for 3 days, then 4-day trip, then to SLC (together) for 3 days for the funeral, then 4-day trip, and three days off (which I worked 2). Once he gets back from this trip, he's taking Rosie to Cali for 5 days (She hasn't been back since December), flying her to SLC to wait a day till I go to SLC for my high school reunion. Taylor will be on another 4-day trip, so he's missing the reunion. He actually has been getting 14-16 days off per month the last 3 months, but he's gone almost every weekend. At church today, I was realizing it's been over a month since we've gone together, and he won't be home for at least the next two Sundays.

It's a blessing to have the flight bennies. Especially when you get on your first-choice flight. While Taylor and Rosie are in California, I've been contemplating taking a quick overnight trip somewhere. I don't think its a good idea to fly all the way out to Cali just for one day (when I did so in May it took a week to recover) when I'll be back in SLC the next weekend. Car rentals are disgustingly expensive right now, so I probably shouldn't plan on a city that I'd be on my own. I'm not too excited to spend a weekend at home, since our air conditioning is broken at our apartment, and who knows how long it will take maintenance to fix it.

Just the two of us...

This week we flew to SLC for Taylor's grandfather's funeral. Despite the sad circumstances for the trip, it was really nice to spend three days with Taylor. We even got on the direct DTW-SLC flights with no hassles. One of the evenings we went out for a night on the town. My parents now live in an apartment downtown, so it was easy to walk to the Gateway for dinner. Here's a pic I snapped on my phone of the two of us on our downtown date.We returned home last night, and Taylor left on a 4-day trip this morning. I'm feeling a little lonely tonight, which doesn't happen too much on the first day of his trips. But he has 4 days off once he's home, so three more nights to go...

6 Months in Michigan

I can hardly believe that our family has been living in Michigan for 6 months now! Here are a few of my favorite things about living here:

-Living in the same state as my husband!
-Fireflies!!! (Rosie and I counted over 70 of them last night)
-Diet Vernor's Ginger Ale
-Partying with the Pearces
-Leo's Coney Island
-Mike, Erin and Will
-The spectacular rainstorms and thunderstorms
-Hillary, Steven, and Elodie
-Jerusalem Garden in Ann Arbor
-Plymouth Township Park
-Pizza Papalis in Greektown
-The Henry Ford Museum
-Easy access to the rest of the country via Detroit Metro Airport on free flights

I don't know how long we'll live in Michigan. Taylor's under the impression that we'll figure out a way to move back to California in 6 months (as long as his airline survives the merger and he can get a bid for the ATL base and commute from ONT). If we do move back, I wonder if we'd be any better off financially than we are here (and we're currently NOT making it financially). I really miss my friends and family on the other side of the country and have felt a lot of loneliness here. We have made a few good friends, and I crave the time we spend with them. I am grateful for the good times we've had in Michigan (and the places we've visited while living here).

Memories of Me

Here are the directions:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty cool (and funny) to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. :) If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.
